A Breakthrough...

We think we've stumbled on a big breakthrough today....lately the babies have been taking very long to finish their feeds and it's been a real struggle to get through 3 x feeds for three babies! Often the kids have been falling asleep half way through their feeds and just seemed to get really tired really fast often crying a few times in between. Sometimes feeding durations for each child have been taking up to an hour each and mommy, daddy, and grandma Uppal have been getting frustrated. Today, Grandma and mommy poked a second hole in each bottle nipple thinking that the hole was just too small ... upon testing the hypothesis.... feeding times magically reduced in half and the babies seemed so much more happier !!! The babies are able to suck more easily and expend less energy to finish their feeds.

This is a big win for us because we may get a few hours back in our day! Hopefully it stays that way!

We are a Sens Family!

We said good bye to Grandma Gera (aka daddi) this week. We got a few extra days out of her visit with the volcanic ash in Iceland preventing her flight from leaving - we weren't complaining. Grandma Gera and the kids bonded over the last couple of weeks and we all miss her and can't wait for her to come back! She was so helpful during her visit and not sure what we'll do without her.

With it being pretty busy still on the home front, especially while the kids are yet to sleep through the night, Grandma Uppal came back up from Ottawa to lend a hand until next Sunday. We are happy to have her back. Getting through the days, especially the weekdays while I'm at work, has been pretty difficult lately. If you're free and want to lend a hand - we'd be happy to have you over for an hour, an afternoon, or a day! :)

What's new this week: they are starting to hold up their heads during tummy time, they are starting to get better with hand coordination and are able to grab their favourite doll, and can even hold their soother in their mouths ....sometimes.

We are a family of Sens fans!

A Day in the Life of Triplet Parents

The babies are two months old today! It's amazing how time flies.
The NICU feels like it was eons ago and we've settled into a groove at home now.

What is a day in the life of a triplet parent like at this age?

Everyday we do...

25 x diaper changes
20 x sessions of feeds\burping
6 x rounds of pumping (that's all Geeta of course)
4 x rounds of bottle and equipment washing
3 x loads of laundry
3 x rounds of making formula
1 x round of sterilizing baby stuff
1 x emptying the diaper genie

4 hours of sleep....
20 mins of staring outside wishing you could enjoy the sunshine...
brushing your teeth at 2pm...

one precious smile at the end of day....priceless!

Happy 0th birthday!

Today is officially the babies due date!
Happy 0th birthday!! It's amazing how these little angels came so early and have come so far.
Officially the babies are almost two months old now, but medically speaking the doctors go by their so-call adjusted age - i.e. their age starting from their due date. So the babies are 0 years old today (adjusted age)...

Growing so fast!!

It's amazing how fast babies grow! Our little babes are changing by the day - Its really such a special time because they are only this small once and we really want to remember it the best we can. Geeta and I try our best to capture the memories, and even this blog is somewhat like a diary to capture the moments.

Grandma left for Ottawa this weekend and will return back to us on Sunday for a few more days. Geeta and I are dividing up tonight's feeds to make the most of our sleep. I've got the feeds until 2AM and she's got us covered past 6AM. Sarah has been covering us during the weekday nights and honestly I'm not sure how we'd do it without her. I've been really busy at work and I don't think i'd get through the days without that sleep.

What's new with the babies this week? .... Their hand-eye coordination is getting better, they are smiling more and starting to play with objects, they can hold their head up for short durations, they stay up longer, they love cuddling, and they love to pee on us while we change them ;) Jaiden is still the feisty one and definately rules this family with his pleading cries....oh Jaiden - please give mommy and daddy a break! Kailen got over a slight cold this week and continues to sleep like it's his job, and Ariya is definately daddy's little girl :)

Ariya loves to bug her brothers while they sleep:

Weekend Update

It's been really nice having Grandma here and we've taken advantage of the weather by taking the babies on a stroll over the last two days. They sure do attract a lot of attention - we've noticed that the trick to not getting stopped in public is to keep moving. We try not to be rude so we just smile and keep walking and try to keep conversation brief.

With the babies at home, Geeta and I are getting used to being home-bodies. Our typical Friday and Saturday involves sitting on the couch rotating feed/diaper changes and trying to catch a flick via Rogers on Demand. Getting out of the house feels really good and is like a treat especially for Geeta.

Long Weekend with The Babies!

The Easter long weekend is finally here and Grandma, Geeta, and me are looking forward to spending some quality time with the kids. It looks like it will be a fantastic weekend weather-wise and we are hoping to take the babies for a brief stroll hopefully without attracting too much triplet-attention!

The babies had their second doctor's appt this week and we got some fantastic news: All three of them are gaining some serious weight! Kailen is now 7 lbs 2oz, Jaiden is 5 lbs 12 oz, and Ariya is 5 lbs 9 oz. The doctor told us to keep doing what we are doing, and that really gives us confidence that we are doing a decent job.

Having Grandma around has been wonderful. Life is easy with her here and the kids get lots of kisses and bonding time with their Grandma.

Some recent pics.
